About tour:

Day of freeriding on the best and the largest resort in Kazakhstan, which matches the European standards of quality. This tour is suitable for both, beginners and experienced riders. You will visit the highest point of the resort – Talgar pass (3200 m), where you will see stunning panorama of the glaciers, enjoy hospitality and warm atmosphere in kazakh traditional yurt, while eating national kazakh meals and beverages.

Itinerary:

Almaty city – Medeu sport complex – Shymbulak mountain resort.

Schedule:

Meeting the guide at your hotel in Almaty at 08:30 and transfer to Medeu sports complex (1690 m.a.s.l), then ascent by cable car to Shymbulak ski resort. Having ridden about 20-25 minutes above magnificent fur-trees up to the altitude of 2260 meters, you will get to the 1st level of ski resort, occupied by fancy restaurants, ski & snowboarding school and mountain hotel. First half of the day you will be riding from the lifts. Depending on weather conditions, amount of snow, level of avalanche hazard, fit and experience of the riders it may be possible to explore local freeride spots. Lunch will be arranged in traditional kazakh yurt at Talgar pass (3200 m) – the highest point of Shymbulak, where you will be offered national dishes, snacks and black tea. After lunch, you will continue exploring slopes of the resort till 5 pm. Coming back to Medeo gorge by cable car and departure to Almaty with approximate arrival time 7 pm.

Upon your wish we can arrange evening traditional saka bath-house in the mountain area nearby resort (optionally, extra charge) with aroma and heating procedures, cooling down in the font or river and drinking tea with herbs and honey.

Required clothing and equipment

Safety: 
– avalanche equipment (air bag system and avalanche safety kit: shovel, probe, transciever)
– freeride backpack with ski/snowboard fixation (volume 25-40 liters)
– helmet
– goggles with a spare lens for foggy conditions (better to have 2 goggles)

Personal clothing and accessories:
– comfortable functional clothing for riding downhill and short hikes uphill (base layer: thermal underwear, membrane jacket and pants, fleece jacket, additional layers of clothing for insulation, downy sweater or vest)
– gloves or mittens
– warm hat, neck gaiter
– sunscreen
– sunglasses
– personal AID kit (adhesive plaster, emergency thermal blanket, individual medications)
– repair kit (spare parts and tools for adjustment and repair your bindings,duct tape, rubber straps)
– thermos
– water tank

Equipment:
– ski/snowboard boots
– proper freeride skis/snowboard
– ski poles

Food:
– individual snacks for the route (energy and protein bars, muesli, dry fruits and nuts, special mount nutrition)

Please, note:

Depending on weather, temperature and snow conditions, the guide can make adjustments to the program.

It is required to have travel insurance covering freeride, alpine touring and backcountry in the remote mountain area, including rescue by helicopter.
